Tomorrow we meet at the HUB —– Set list to be revealed!

PLEASE BRING YOUR HOMEWORK — Whatever you promised your group you would be bringing….

Matt

Hey guys,

This week will be at the HUB (16th and Burrard). What are we going to do, you ask? We’re going to split into groups for marketing, sound and logistics and work on the show!

I would also like to start scheduling individual jam sessions.  In the comment section, could you please put the days and times that you would NOT be available.

Thanks,

Matt

Hello SOME (Society of Music Enthusiasts),

Happy New Year!! Hope you guys had a great, musically inspiring break. I got some great music for x-mas (Gov’t Mule anyone? How about the Knife? Or the new Beatles/Cirque du Soliel CD? Good stuff.)

This week we’ll be meeting at The HUB – on 16th and Burrard (1825 West 16th). Same time (7.30). No instruments are needed. We are going to be making some BIG decisions about our show, so bring all your ideas!

Please ask any questions in the comments section.

See you Thursday!

Matt

Hi guys,

Ok, so that Adrian can make it, I think we’re going to go with Tuesday at 6pm (same location). What do you guys want to do? Other than the national anthem of course…. it’s the last session, so I want to be open minded!!

Hi guys,

I turns out we’re going to be closed on Thursday this week. I could still be down for a session of the society, but I wanted to suggest that we meet on Tuesday at 6, or Weds at7.30 : instead. How would that work for everyone? Please comment and let me know if one or both of those times would work!

Matt

I was talking to Braden after last week’s session, and he suggested that we cover ‘light my fire’ by the Doors. Seems like a great idea to me, what do you guys think?

Here’s a classic live version:  http://youtube.com/watch?v=GxfzLk53bYM
Possible line-up might be:
Braden: Drums
Ben: Hamond Organ (sounding keyboard)
Scott: Bass
Eliot: Guitar
Vocals: ?? (Dylan? Sam? Eliot? anyone?)

remember… not everyone will play on every track, though we’ll all be involved in the arranging of the songs….

See you tommorow,

Matt

Hey guys,

Tommorow will be at 4619 West 7th Avenue (and so will next week, the last week before christmas).

Bring your instruments! See you there.

Matt

hey guys,

if you get this in time, please bring something to play today — if you’re in rhythm, bring a precussion instrument or something like that (or a bass if you’re scott). If you’re melody, and acoustic guitar would work…..

see you tonight,

Matt

Hi guys,

For this upcoming Thursday (December 7th), our session will be at 4619 West 7th Avenue from 7.30-9.00. On the itnerary:

  1. Commenting on the Strokes
  2. Listening to this week’s CD (is it Turner that’s making it?)
  3. Talking about the 10 rules of Jamming
  4. Working on our arrangment of ‘The National Anthem’

Sound fun? Put your comments below!

Matt

Hello Society …

So, now that we’re going to play ‘The National Anthem,” I think we need to figure out who will play what part. Keep in mind that this is just one song, so if you’d prefer to play a different instrument, I’m sure we can do that for a different song (I hope that throughout the whole show, people will change instruments and do things that are out of their comfort zone). Also, although we will all help arrange each song, not everyone will play on every song. However, since we’re opening with ‘the national anthem’ I think you should all be on stage. What do you guys think about this line-up:

Rhythm:

  • Charlie – full kit
  • Braden – precussion
  • Turner – single, tom-ish drum (maybe a Bodhran? what do you guys think?
  • Scott – Bass Line

Melody:

  • Adrian – Horns (still to be determined)
  • Eliot – Chuncking guitar
  • Sam – Slide Guitar
  • David – Sounds related to the impending end of the world (see original, studio version)
  • Dylan – Vocals

Although I think Dylan should sing vocals, I think that we should all, at various times, sing. If you could comment to this post, and let us know if you’re comfortable singing back-ups, that would be great.

Let me know what you guys think about this potential line-up. Start to learn your parts this week, as we’ll be jamming the song at our session.
